Bamboo flooring, harvested from bamboo grass, is a sustainable alternative to hardwood, and can be treated as such. Bamboo is harvested every 5-6 years at optimum maturity, whereas natural hardwood is harvested at about 30 years, thus making bamboo a sustainable flooring option. Bamboo, like hardwood, varies in hardness, but is usually at least 25% and up to 150% harder than standard oak. The hardness factor varies on manufacturing techniques and when the grass is harvested. Natural bamboo floors are found in two grain styles, vertical or horizontal, and can be found in just about any neutral shade and color.
